Let’s Try Love.
Recently God put it on my heart to address our habits in human relations as well as our motives. I think it’s healthy to check ourselves every so often, and take a look at who we are. Not who we think we are, not how we portray ourselves to the world……but who we really are. I can’t even begin to count the times where I’ve had two awesome people both telling me how badly the other treats them. We’ve always gotta remember: “It takes two to tango.” SO true!
Let’s look at what the bible says about gossip: “Do not spread slanderous gossip about your neighbor. Do not stand by when your neighbor’s life is threatened.” Leviticus 19:16 (New Living Translation)
Ok so God’s pretty clear about His feelings towards our backstabbing habits. Also I find it interesting that Leviticus 18 is dedicated to God’s opinion on sexual immorality. He calls such acts abominable, and Leviticus 20 covers punishments for such sins – death, or exile…and snugly between the two chapters is God’s opinion on gossip. That shows us that we need to take this stuff seriously.
So I know we’re all paranoid about being judged and blah, blah, blah; but we can’t let our pride get in the way of real learning here. God says in Leviticus 19:15 to abstain from unfair judgment, but He also finishes with “…But in righteousness thou shall judge thy neighbor.” So we’re still kinda supposed to keep each other accountable…..right? Right. Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”
It says in Proverbs 11:9 “The hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor…” So I think we all get the point here. God doesn’t want us talking trash about one another. Period.
If God can look down on our wickedness and show us love, even after we brutalized His son and cursed His name, then I think we can afford to have some kindness towards each other.
That being said – let’s try love…
